Let Food Be Thy Medicine

I recently watched two documentaries by the Food Matters crew. The first was their original documentary, Food Matters, and the second was entitled Hungry for Change. This quote by Hippocrates (460-370 BC), the father of western medicine, is the opening to Food Matters. The Hippocratic Oath is still recited to this day by medical doctors upon graduation. Both of these films focus on the lack of understanding of how our body processes food, and more importantly how it processes the food that is found in the typical American diet. Furthermore, both of these films touch on the growing amount of evidence that links proper food choices to improvement in our own health and to the ability to treat many diseases and ailments that are common in today’s society.

Let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food. – Hippocrates

Theses two films have renewed my focus on nutrition and prompted me to order the Hungry For Change Mastery Program which includes all of the full interviews with the experts from the film. I received my DVD’s a few days ago and have already dug in and watched a few of them. I plan on writing a featured post for each of the two films and also one for the Mastery Program as well. I would recommend both of these films to anyone and everyone. They can really open your eyes to the benefits and consequences of typical food choices.

Dr. Dan Murphy’s Nutritional Reading List 2011

I mentioned in a previous post that Dr. Dan Murphy provided us with a recommended reading list on nutrition at the chiropractic seminar that I attended at the beginning of December 2011. Dr. Murphy is known in the chiropractic profession as being one of the most intelligent men on the planet. Dr. Murphy regularly reviews the current literature and research studies and passes on this information on to the rest of the profession. You can find more information about Dr. Murphy at his website www.danmurphydc.com. Below are links to these books available at Amazon.com. For the purpose of full disclosure, these are affiliate links meaning we will receive a small commission from Amazon if you purchase these books from them. Most of these books, however, are probably available from your public library. I have not yet had a chance to read these books, but as I do, I will post individual reviews.

ProSport Las Vegas 2011

I just got back from Las Vegas where I attended the 2011 ProSport Las Vegas Chiropractic Continuing Education Seminar. There were a lot of great speakers down there, and I learned a lot of new things that I am implementing into our practice. I am not going to bore all of you with all of the details of the seminar, but I do feel that you should know about some of the continuing education that I have been undertaking. Chiropractors in the State Of Washington are required to complete at least 25 hours of Continuing Education each year. In most years, I double that amount. This seminar alone contained 21 hours of Continuing Education. In addition to great speakers, I also had access to several vendors that had some great products that I want to introduce to all of you. I will try to feature some of those products on the website in the next few months, and for those of you who are coming into the office, you can get an up close look at them. So, here is a brief run down of who spoke at the seminar and what that means for you as a patient:

  • Lindsay J. Rowe, M.APP.SC, DC, MD, DACBR, FRANZCR

That is a lot of initials, I know. Dr. Rowe is both an MD and a DC, amd he is one of the top Radiologists in the world. He is the guy who wrote the Radiology textbooks that are required reading at all of the chiropractic schools. Dr. Rowe usually only comes to the United States about once per year. This was the third time that I have […]
